What is Sparks?
Sparks is a ProWritingAid feature that helps you make instant edits and get creative ideas.
Whether you’re fine-tuning a paragraph or overcoming writer’s block, Sparks provides inspiration and actionable suggestions to keep your creativity flowing.
How do I use Sparks?
Highlight at least one sentence of your text and the “Sparks” button will appear. We have highlighted this button in red in the image below.
You can then select Sparks options under two main categories: Sparks Edit and Sparks Inspire.
What types of suggestions can I get with Sparks?
Sparks provides two main types of rewriting suggestions:
- Edit: This category helps you edit your writing to improve clarity, fluency, or structure.
- Readability: shows you ways to improve the clarity and readability of your writing
- Fluency: makes your writing more fluent
- Transitions: suggests edits to improve the structure and use of transitional phrases
- Sensory: adds sensory details to make your descriptions more engaging
- Summarize: provides a short summary of the text you have selected
- Expand from notes: suggests a longer and fully grammatical version of a set of notes or bullet points
- Make 1st person: adapts your writing to be in the 1st person
- Make 3rd person: adapts your writing to be in the 3rd person
- Past tense: sets your writing in the past tense
- Present tense: sets your writing in the present tense.
- Inspire: This category gives you creative ideas and inspiration to beat writer’s block.
- What’s next?: suggests ways to move the story onward
- Action: suggests action points to add into your writing
- Dialogue: gives ideas for adding new dialogue
- Emotion detail: suggests ways to add emotive writing
- Sensory detail: suggests ways to focus on the senses in your writing
- Analogy: inspires how to make comparisons between similar descriptions or themes
- Counterargument: gives you ideas to add a contrasting opinion to your writing
- Definition: suggests definitions that further explain descriptions in your writing
- Emphasize: shows ways to emphasize a particular point you are making
- Explanation: shows how to add a more detailed explanation to your writing
- Joke: inspires you to add a joke or witty remarks
- Quote: gives you an inspirational quote.
What is the difference between Sparks and Rephrase?
Both our Rephrase and Sparks features offer on-demand suggestions for writers.
Rephrase is ideal for reworking individual sentences.
Sparks gives you instant editing examples and inspiration for individual sentences, paragraphs, or multiple sentences. It can be used on up to 2,500 characters at a time.
