How to turn off Rephrase on a Windows computer?

Turning off Rephrase is simple. Below, we’ve included steps to show you how to turn it off within each ProWritingAid integration on a Windows computer.

If you're using a Mac computer, you can find instructions for turning off Rephrase here.

Web Editor

To turn off our Rephrase feature in your Web Editor, please follow the below steps.

  1. Click on the Menu tab in the top left-hand corner of the Editor.
  2. You should see the 'Show Rephrase Toolbar' option listed in the drop-down menu.
  3. Press the slider next to that option (as shown in the below screenshot) to toggle our Rephrase feature on or off.


ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere for Windows

To turn off rephrases in ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere for Windows, you can follow the below steps.

  1. Locate your ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon on your desktop toolbar. For example:

  1. Left click on the ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon, and select 'Settings' from the options that appear.

  1. Go to the 'Settings' section at the bottom of the pop-up that will appear. Please note that you may need to scroll, or move the right-hand side bar, down to find this. You can then un-check the rephrase settings there to disable them.


Chrome Browser Extension

To turn off our Rephrase feature in your browser extension, please follow the below steps.

  1. Click on the PWA logo in your extensions bar in the top right-hand corner. You should then see a similar menu to the one below:

  2. Un-check the option highlighted below to disable rephrases in your browser extension.


Word Add-in for Windows

To turn off rephrases in our Word Add-In, you can follow the below steps.

  1. If you haven't already, click on the ProWritingAid tab on your Word ribbon.

  1. Go to your ProWritingAid Word Add-In settings, which you can find here:

  1. This will open a new window. Make sure you have the circled option below un-checked to disable rephrases.


Desktop Editor

This section shows an older version of our brand look and feel. Other integrations and extensions available may look different to the screenshots below.

We won’t be updating our Desktop Editor in the future. We recommend that you download ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere, which is compatible with the most commonly used writing apps.

To turn off our Rephrase feature in the Desktop Editor, please see the below steps.

  1. Go to the 'Tools' tab at the top of the Desktop Editor.
  2. Click on 'Rephrase Toolbar'.
  3. Check the 'Disabled' option to disabled rephrases.
