What Is Rephrase?

Rephrase is a tool that gives you instant suggestions for rewording your sentences. To use it, you simply need to highlight at least one sentence in your text. The “Rephrase” button will appear. We have shown this button with a red arrow pointing toward it in the image below.

When you click on the "Rephrase" button, three Rephrase suggestions will generate in the method that is selected in the lefthand side menu. We have shown an example of this with the "Sensory" Rephrase method selected in the image below:

You can rephrase your sentences using eight different methods:

  • Standard rewords your sentences without making stylistic changes.
  • Fluency makes your text read like native English if it is not your first language.
  • Formal rewords your sentences stylistically for professional and academic documents.
  • Informal rephrases your writing with more casual and colloquial usages.
  • Sensory heightens and expands descriptions that incorporate the senses.
  • Shorten suggests ways to use shorter words and sentences.
  • Expand suggests ways to use longer words or add more detail to create longer sentences.
  • Emotion rewords sentences to add descriptions of emotions and feelings.

You can click on the rephrase you like to make it replace the original sentence in your text. Alternatively, you can click on the “Copy” button in the top right-hand corner of each suggestion to add it to your text manually.

Remember, you don't have to use any of the reworded sentences Rephrase suggests. However, you can still use it as a powerful editing tool for inspiration on ways to rephrase your text. This is especially helpful as you get unlimited Rephrases with our Premium and Premium Pro plans.
