How Do I Fix Installation Issues with ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere?
Installation issues can happen for many reasons. Below, you will find information on fixes for potential installation issues you could experience with ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere.
We recommend that you follow all these steps in order before contacting us.
Check that your version of Desktop Everywhere is up to date
ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere should automatically update every time we release a new version unless you’ve turned off automatic updates (Mac only).
If you use Windows and are unsure if you have the latest version, you can reach out for help.
If you use Mac and would like to make sure you have the latest version:
You can check for updates by clicking on the Check for Updates option in the app menu.
- If there’s an update available, you will see a pop-up from where you can install the latest update. Simply click Install and Relaunch.
- If you activate automatic updates for ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere, make sure that the Automatically download and install updates in the future box is checked before clicking Install and Relaunch.
Check that your Operating System is up to date
If you use Windows, you will need to have a supported version of Windows and all the available updates installed to use Desktop Everywhere successfully. You can find more information here.
If you use Mac, you will need to have a supported version of macOS and all the available updates installed to use Desktop Everywhere successfully. You can find more information here.
If you’re not able to upgrade your operating system, you can still use our Web Editor to edit your compatible documents with ProWritingAid. The Web Editor is compatible with most modern web browsers. You can find details on which file types are compatible here.
Both ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere for Mac and ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere for Windows should automatically update when an update has been released unless you’ve turned off automatic updates (Mac only).
Uninstall and reinstall
You can also try uninstalling then reinstalling ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere.
If you use Windows, when uninstalling to resolve installation issues, please use this Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter to uninstall your existing version of ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere.
This should work with both Windows 10 and Windows 11 and will completely uninstall all previous versions of ProWritingAid on your computer, allowing you to download and install ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere without issue again.
If you use Mac, you can use these steps:
- Open Finder on your computer and go to the Applications folder.
- Find Desktop Everywhere within your list of apps.
Right-click on the icon to see the following options:
- Click Move to Trash (or Move to Bin), then clear your Trash folder.
This should then uninstall and remove ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere from your Mac.
If you experience issues with these steps, you will need to quit the integration first. To do this, click on the ProWritingAid icon in the top toolbar of your screen and press Quit.
Desktop Everywhere is installed but not showing in documents
