I cannot see the ProWritingAid icon anymore

If you cannot see the ProWritingAid icon or cannot use Desktop Everywhere on a specific app you are using, this may be due to several different reasons that we will outline below.

The app is not compatible with Desktop Everywhere

Desktop Everywhere may not be compatible with the app you are using. If the app is not supported, you will not see the ProWritingAid icon in that app.

To suggest that an app is supported by Desktop Everywhere, visit the Feature Requests space in our Community. You can use this space to suggest new support or vote for new support if the request has already been made.

You are not logged into your account

You must be logged into your ProWritingAid account to use Desktop Everywhere. If you’re not logged in, follow the steps below to log in:

Windows

1. Find your ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon in your desktop toolbar. We have shown an example of what the icon looks like, highlighted in red in the image below.

2. Click on the icon. The sign-in window will appear. We have shown an example of this window in the image below.

   

   
   
3. Click on the "Log in" button.
4. If you're already logged in on our website, it will log you in with that account. If you're not logged in on our website, it'll ask you to log in there. Remember to log into our website with the email address associated with your paid account.

5. After you have logged in, the window will update to show that ProWritingAid is active. Click the "Got it" button to close the window. We have shown an example of this window in the image below.

   

Mac

1. Click on the ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon in the top toolbar of your screen and select “Sign In”. We have shown an example of this selection in the image below.

   

2. The sign-in window will appear. Click on the "Log in" button. We have shown an example of this window in the image below.

   

3. If you're already logged in on our website, it will log you in with that account. If you're not logged in on our website, it'll ask you to log in there. Remember to log into our website with the email address associated with your paid account.

4. After you have logged in, the window will update to show that ProWritingAid is active. Click the "Got it" button to close the window. We have shown an example of this window in the image below.

   

Desktop Everywhere is disabled on a specific app

You can disable Desktop Everywhere temporarily or permanently on specific apps. If you have disabled ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere on a specific app, you can enable it again by following these steps:

Windows

To turn ProWritingAid back on for that app, you will need to open your Desktop Everywhere settings and remove the program from your "Blocked Apps" list.

1. Find your ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon in your desktop toolbar. We have shown an example of what the icon looks like, highlighted in red in the image below.

2. Right-click on the Desktop Everywhere icon. Then select "Settings" from the options that appear.

3. Go to the "Blocked Apps" section and click the "View" button. We have highlighted this button with a red arrow in the image below.

4. Select the option to "Remove" the block for your programme. Then click the "Done" button at the end of the window.

Mac

1. Click on the ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon in the top toolbar of your screen and select “Settings”.

2. A window will appear. Select the app that you’d like to re-enable and click "Remove App." We have shown an example of this window in the image below.
