I can’t see the ProWritingAid icon anymore

If you can’t see the ProWritingAid icon or use ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere on specific apps, it may be for different reasons:

The app you’re using is not compatible with ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere.

While we’re working to bring ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere to the most commonly used writing apps, it’s not currently compatible with all writing apps available. If the app you’re using is not supported, you won’t see the ProWritingAid icon in that app.

You can find a (non-exhaustive) list of Windows apps (here) and Mac apps (here) that are compatible with ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere. Conversely, you will find a list of apps that we know ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere doesn’t support here.

To suggest that an app is supported by ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere, visit our community's Feature Requests space. Vote for it if it's already been suggested, or suggest it if no one has done so yet.

You may not be logged in.

You need to be logged in to your ProWritingAid account to use Desktop Everywhere. If you’re not logged in, follow the instructions below to ensure that you can get all the benefits of your ProWritingAid account:

On Windows:

1. Locate your ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon on your desktop toolbar. For example:

2. Left-click on the icon in your system tray and you'll see the sign-in window pop-up. Click on the 'Log in' button that will appear.

3. If you're logged in on our website, it will log you in with that account. If you're not logged in on our website, it'll ask you to login there.

   

   Remember to make sure you're logging into our website with the email address associated with your paid account.

4. Once the login process is complete, the window will update to let you know it's worked. You can then click 'Got it' to close the window.

   

On Mac:

1. Click on the ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon in the top toolbar of your screen and select “Sign In”.

   

2. You'll see the sign-in window pop-up. Click on the 'Log in' button:

   

3. If you're logged in on our website, it will log you in with that account. If you're not logged in on our website, it'll ask you to login there.

   Remember to make sure you're logging into our website with the email address associated with your paid account.

4. Once the login process is complete, the window will update to let you know it's worked. You can then click 'Got it' to close the window.

   

You may have disabled ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere on a specific app.

ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere gives you the flexibility to access our reports and features from compatible apps. This flexibility includes allowing you to disable Desktop Everywhere temporarily or permanently on specific apps. If you have disabled ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere on a specific app, you can turn it back on following these steps:

On Windows:

To turn ProWritingAid back on for that app, you will need to open your Desktop Everywhere settings and remove the programme from your 'Blocked Apps' list.

1. Locate the ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon on your desktop toolbar, here:

2. Right click on the Desktop Everywhere icon, and select 'Settings' from the options that appear.

3. Go to the section 'Blocked Apps' section and click 'View'.

4. Select the option to 'Remove' the block for your programme, then 'Done' to complete the process.

On Mac:

1. Click on the ProWritingAid Desktop Everywhere icon in the top toolbar of your screen and select “Settings”. On the pop-up, select the app(s) that you’d like to re-enable and click ‘Remove App’.
