How to fine-tune your feedback in Manuscript Analysis

You can now fine-tune the feedback you receive from Manuscript Analysis. Doing this will help steer the analysis and personalize your feedback in the report based on your requests.

Run Manuscript Analysis

To run Manuscript Analysis in the Web Editor, click on the “Critique” button in the toolbar that appears at the top of your document. We have highlighted this button in red in the image below.

To run Manuscript Analysis in ProWritingAid Everywhere, click on the floating ProWritingAid icon. Then click on the “Critique” icon. We have highlighted this in red in the image below.

The Critique side menu will appear. Click on “Manuscript Analysis.” We have highlighted this in red in the image below.

Fine-tune your feedback

The Manuscript Analysis menu will open. Scroll down to the end of the menu to see a section titled “Help us fine-tune your feedback.” We have shown an image of this section below.

You can type up to 1,200 characters directly in the field. Include any specific goals or concerns you want to focus on in the report. These may include:

  • Defining the context of your manuscript. You could add details about your motivation for writing the story, whether it will be part of a series, its intended genre, and the specific stylistic choices you have made.
  • General concerns about your manuscript. You could specify particular areas you want to focus on, such as pacing, characterization, or tone. Manuscript Analysis will always provide overarching feedback across your entire manuscript. However, this may help to steer some elements of the analysis in a specific direction.

If you have several different topics, you can list these separated by commas. Alternatively, you can write in full sentences.

Generate your report with personalized feedback

Click on the “Run Manuscript Analysis” button. Depending on the length of your manuscript, the report may take up to 4 to 5 minutes to generate.

When your report is ready, in the first section titled “About My Story,” there is a subsection titled “Story Overview.” In this subsection, you will see a paragraph that starts with “User Notes.” This paragraph will acknowledge your goals and concerns to steer the analysis.

Throughout the report, you will now find that the analysis will specifically address the goals, concerns, and topics you included.
