Is there a “Change all” option for editing?

No, there is not a “Change all” function when you make edits using either our Real-time Checker or our Reports.

Why isn’t there a “Change all” option?

Accuracy in your manuscript is incredibly important, and we want to help you check possible errors and issues individually. A “Change all” function could cause you to use an incorrect word or grammatical rule without realizing. Plus, we have other ways to make editing quicker and easier.

How to make editing quicker with ProWritingAid

Use the Grammar Check

From the moment you start typing, our Grammar Check will spot grammatical issues in real time. They will be color-coded with blue underlines for grammar and red underlines for spelling. You can hover over each underlined issue to read more information, ignore the suggestion, or even disable a rule.

Hover over an underlined word, and you’ll see a list of suggestions for potential alternative words. We have shown this in the image below.

Select the word that suits your writing best to replace the word in your text. You can then select the arrow pointing downward to jump to the next issue.

Use “Add to Dictionary”

The “Add to Dictionary” function works similarly to “Change all” because it applies across all of your writing. If you are using a story-specific term you created or a character name, the Grammar Checker may highlight this as incorrect. Click “Add to Dictionary” to add the word to your personal ProWritingAid dictionary. We have shown this in the image below.

The word will no longer be highlighted as an error in all of your text.

Use “Disable Rule”

The “Disable Rule” function also works similarly to “Change all” because it applies across your whole manuscript. When you hover over a grammar issue, you can select “Disable Rule.” This will stop the Grammar Checker from highlighting this rule in all of your writing. We have shown this in the image below.

Use the Grammar Report

Running the Grammar Report can also help you make edits quicker. Under the title “Grammar Check,” you will see a list that shows a spelling score, as well as spelling, grammar, and punctuation issues in your text.

Click on each issue to expand the list and see the specific words with issues. You can also see how many times they appear in your text, indicated by the number in brackets.

If the word appears more than once, hover over it to select from a small icon menu as shown in the image below.

Click on the chevron icons to jump to the next or previous word of this type in your text.

If the word only appears once, hover over it to select from a small icon menu as shown in the image below.

Click on the arrow to jump to this word in your text.

Click on the eye icon to hide underlining for this type of issue across your text, which works in a similar way to a “Change all” function. You can click on it again to show the underlining again.
