Who can take part in Novel Beginnings?

To submit an entry in the Novel Beginnings contest for the $50,000 grand prize, you must be an unrepresented and unpublished writer. Here’s a summary of what this means:

Who can submit entries in Novel Beginnings?

  • Writers who do not have a literary agent and have not previously published a book with an established publisher. We define an established publisher as a publishing house that publishes at least three novels by different authors with International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) every year. It also distributes its books nationally via retail and online outlets.
  • Writers who have self-published, or have been published in magazines or anthologies.
  • Writers with a Free plan (via a $20 entry fee) or a Premium or Premium Pro plan. If you do not have a plan yet, you can sign up for a ProWritingAid account immediately.
