What is Story Canvas?

Story Canvas is an alpha release feature we are testing for a limited time. If you don’t have it in your Web Editor and you would like to try it, please contact support@prowritingaid.com.

Story Canvas is a feature that gives you instant feedback on your idea for a story. By answering a series of questions about your story, you can refine its key elements and then receive feedback about specific aspects of your idea.

What do I need to use Story Canvas?

To run Story Canvas, you only need the initial idea for your story. It doesn’t matter if you have already started writing it, or are at the very beginning with a blank page.

How does Story Canvas work?

There are two steps to Story Canvas: answering questions and receiving feedback.

Answer questions

Story Canvas starts by asking you a series of questions that focus on the key elements and foundations of your story.

It’s okay if you don’t have the answers to all the questions yet. You can still receive feedback if you answer as many as you can at the moment.

Receive idea feedback

After you’ve answered the questions as best you can, it’s time to generate specific feedback on your story idea. Depending on the detail of the answers you gave, you may need to wait a while for the feedback to generate. Your feedback will cover key aspects of your story idea, including an overview, what’s working well, the originality of your idea, opportunities for development, and your next steps.

How do I use the Story Canvas feedback?

You can keep returning to the Story Canvas idea feedback when you write your story. The feedback will help you refine and develop your story and decide what you need to work on.
