How to improve readability with the Readability Report and Sparks
Improve the readability of your text by combining two of our most popular features: the Readability Report and Sparks.
The Readability Report helps you understand how you can make your writing easier to read. It does this by evaluating your text, spotting paragraphs that are difficult to read, and giving overall readability scores.
Sparks is a tool that provides instant creative ideas and edits. Within Sparks Edit, you can select the Readability option to generate a suggestion for improving the readability of your selected text.
How to run the Readability Report
If you’re using the Web Editor, under the “Reports” toolbar, click on “More Reports.” We have highlighted this in red in the image below.
In the drop-down menu, click “Readability.”
If you’re using a ProWritingAid integration, hover over the floating ProWritingAid icon. Click on “Reports,” then click on “Readability” to open the drop-down menu. Finally, click on “Readability” inside the drop-down menu.
To help you find it, here is an image of the “Readability” icon below.
The Readability Report will run. Under the title “Readability,” look out for paragraphs listed as slightly difficult to read and very difficult to read. The report will underline these paragraphs in yellow and red respectively in your text.
Click on the type of readability difficulty in the list. Hover over the starting words of each paragraph listed to select from a small icon menu. Then click on the arrow to jump to this paragraph in your text, as shown in the image below.
How to use Sparks Edit to improve readability
Now that you have found the paragraphs that are difficult to read, you can use Sparks Edit to improve them. Select the text in the paragraph, and the “Sparks” button will appear. We have highlighted this in red in the image below.
Click on the “Sparks” button to see a menu. We have highlighted this in red in the image below.
Under “EDIT,” click on “Readability.” In a new window, Sparks will generate a new suggestion to improve the readability of your selected text.
Click the “Replace” button to add the new suggestion in place of your suggested text. Click “Copy” to copy the suggestion to your clipboard for later. Click “Try Again” to generate a new suggestion to improve readability. Just remember that each time you generate a new suggestion, this will count as 1 Spark.
In this way, you can continue using the readability option in Sparks Edit with the paragraphs the Readability Report listed as difficult to read.
