What’s the difference between Sparks Edit and Sparks Inspire?
Sparks Edit gives you instant examples of how to edit and improve your writing. Sparks Inspire gives you new suggestions to push your story forward. When you use either Sparks option, you can always edit and refine the suggestions further. You are in total control of your own writing.
Sparks Edit
Sparks Edit helps you make edits that focus specifically on key elements of your writing such as readability or fluency, tense or perspective.
How Sparks Edit works
Highlight at least one sentence of your text and the “Sparks” button will appear. We have highlighted this button in red in the image below.
Click on the “Sparks” button, and the Sparks menu will appear. Click on any of the options listed under “EDIT.” We have highlighted this menu in red in the image below.
To help you see how it works, we have clicked on “Readability” in the image below. Sparks Edit gives an example of the selected text it has edited to enhance readability.
If you want to use a suggestion, click “Replace” and your text will be updated automatically. If you want a different example, click “Try Again” instead. Each time you click “Try Again,” this counts as one use of Sparks toward your daily Sparks allowance.

If you only want to use some parts of the suggestion, click on “Copy.” You can paste the text into your document manually, then edit it further yourself.
Sparks Inspire
As its name suggests, Sparks Inspire is designed to give you a spark of inspiration when you want to move on with your story. It will help you beat writer’s block and discover alternative ways to expand dialogue, actions, or sensory detail.
How Sparks Inspire works
To start, follow the same steps for Sparks Edit we outlined above. Click on any of the options listed under “INSPIRE.”
To help you see how it works, we have clicked on “Action” in the image below. Sparks Inspire gives you a new suggestion you can add to your writing that includes some action points.
If you like the suggestion, click on “Copy.” You can then paste the text into your document manually, wherever you choose. You can also edit the suggestion further, as you are always in total control of anything you add to your writing using Sparks Inspire.
If you want a different example, click “Try Again” instead. Each time you click “Try Again,” this counts as one use of Sparks toward your daily Sparks allowance.
