How to use Placeholders
The Placeholders feature helps you tag areas of your document that need further work while maintaining your writing flow. It is part of the ProWritingMethod.
How to create a Placeholder
Whenever you feel that an area of your writing needs further research, editing, or improvement, you can mark it as a Placeholder. To do this, simply enclose the area within square brackets “[ ].” Do not use parentheses or braces as only square brackets will be detected.
When you do this, the area of your writing will be shaded green, and it will automatically be added to the “Placeholders” section. You can also jump directly to the Placeholder listed in this section. To do this, hover over the Placeholder in your writing and click on the “Show in the list” button that will appear. We have shown an example of this button highlighted in red in the image below.

How to access Placeholders
To see all of the Placeholders you have created, click on “Write” mode, then click on “Placeholders.” We have highlighted these actions in red in the image below.

How to use Placeholders
In the Placeholders section, you will see all of the Placeholders you have created in a list. You can scroll down to view all of them. Alternatively, if you have a lot of Placeholders, you can search for specific Placeholders by typing keywords in the “Search” field at the top of the window.
You can then click on each Placeholder to jump to its location in your writing. We have shown an example of the Placeholders section in the image below.

How to remove a Placeholder
If you have made an edit or no longer need to tag a Placeholder, you can remove it at any time. To do this, simply delete the square brackets “[ ]” from the area of your writing. This will remove the Placeholder from the list in the Placeholders section.
