What are Writer Circles?
Writer Circles are dedicated, writer-led chat spaces for you to join in our Community. Each Writer Circle is focused on a specific genre or shared interest, so as soon as you join, you can connect and network with like-minded writers.
Which genres and topics are covered in Writer Circles?
Currently, you can join the following Writer Circles:
- Fantasy: focusing on techniques for enchanting world building, crafting magic systems, and creating fantastical settings, within all subgenres such as epic, urban, and dark fantasy.
- Romance: including all subgenres such as contemporary, historical, and paranormal romance.
- Romantasy: combining the genres of romance and fantasy, with themes covering magical worlds, magic systems, love, and faerie courts.
- Mystery and thriller: covering cozy mystery, police procedural, psychological thrillers, and more.
- Historical fiction: including historical suspense, biographies, wartime novels, and more.
- LGBTQIA+: covering all genres with LGBTQIA+ themes such as queer representation, LGBTQIA+ characters, identity exploration, and more.
- Science fiction: spanning hard sci-fi, space opera, cyberpunk, dystopian, steampunk, and more.
- Horror: including subgenres such as supernatural, slasher, gothic, psychological, and more.
- Literary fiction: focusing on layered narratives, character development, and crafted prose within a range of themes such as memory, identity, and existentialism.
- Memoir: spanning themes and focuses such as family history, personal transformation, and cultural identity.
- Christian Writer Circle: focusing on themes around the Christian faith, including biblical themes, spiritual redemption, and fiction that honors God.
- Neurodivergent Writer Circle: focusing on writing processes with fellow neurodivergent writers, including techniques for neurodivergent-friendly workflows.
- Women’s fiction: including stories that resonate with the realities of women’s lives, exploring female experiences, self-discovery, family dynamics, female friendship, and more.
- Dystopian Writer Circle: including stories set within dystopian worlds, covering themes such as environmental breakdowns, totalitarianism, and post-apocalyptic survival.
- Young Adult Literature Writer Circle: including all themes and subgenres within YA fiction, such as coming-of-age stories and teen experiences.
How to join a Writer Circle
First, to join a Writer Circle, you need to sign up to the ProWritingAid Community. It’s easy to sign up as you can log in with your existing ProWritingAid profile whether you have a Free, Premium, or Premium Pro plan.
Once you have joined, visit the Community homepage. In the left-hand side menu, under “NOVEL NOVEMBER,” click on “Join a Writer Circle.” We have highlighted this in red in the image below.

Scroll down on the “Join a Writer Circle” page and you will see all available Writer Circles. We have shown these in the image below.

Click on any that interest you to find out more. To join, introduce yourself in the comment box and click on “Post.” You can explain what interests you about the genre or what you are currently writing.
Finally, refresh the page in your browser, and the Writer Circle you joined will appear in the left-hand side menu, under “NOVEL NOVEMBER.” An exclusive badge for your chosen Writer Circle will also be added to your profile.
What are the benefits of joining a Writer Circle?
You will have the chance to share techniques, interests, and expertise in specific genres with like-minded writers. The Writer Circles will currently serve as incredible inspiration and motivation for reaching 50,000 words during Novel November, but we intend to continue Writer Circles beyond this event.
What if my preferred genre doesn’t have a Writer Circle?
If your preferred writing genre doesn’t exist yet, you can apply to lead a new Writer Circle. Simply fill in the short form, and we will respond to you soon.
