How do I change my Writing Style?

ProWritingAid offers a range of Writing Style settings to choose from to help you with editing your document. To get editing, choose the Writing Style and subsequent Document Type that are most relevant for your text.

Where you use ProWritingAid determines how you can change your Writing Style settings.

When using our Web Editor

You can set your document's Writing Style and the Document Type in two ways.

  1. Simply click the "Settings" button at the top. You should see a bar that has "Document Type" on it. Click on this to update your preferred Document and Writing Style.

  1. You can change your preferred Document Type and Writing Style quickly in the "Goals" and "Improvements" tabs while running our Realtime Report. Like this:

When using our Desktop Editor

If you're using our Desktop Editor for Windows, you'll want to click "Tools" at the top of the app. Then select either "Writing Style" or "Document Type" and make your changes.

If you are using our Desktop Editor for Mac, please go to "ProWritingAid", "Preferences", and then change your Writing Style using the box that pops up:

With our Word Add-In

You can change your Writing Style and Document Type quickly in the "Goals" and "Improvements" tabs while running the Realtime Report. Like this:

Or, if you use Desktop Everywhere

If you are using Desktop Everywhere for Windows, please follow the below steps.

  1. Click on the floating ProWritingAid icon.

  1. Then press on the Writing Style/Document Type setting options here:

3. You can then change your Writing Style settings there.

If you are using Desktop Everywhere for Mac, you will need to follow the below steps.

  1. Locate your Desktop Everywhere icon in the menu bar near your power and Wi-Fi indicators.
  2. Click on the Desktop Everywhere icon, and select "Settings" from the options that appear.

  1. Go to the "Writing Style" section of the pop-up that will appear. You can then change your Writing Style settings there.

You will need to pick both a Writing Style and Document Type for the settings to be implemented.

If a specific Writing Style and Document Type is not set, it will default to "General."
