What is Audience Plan?
Audience Plan helps you take practical steps toward building an author presence and connecting with readers. It recommends an online platform where you could start, then creates a personalized plan to help you begin sharing your work.
Instead of trying to build a presence everywhere at once, you can focus on one platform and work through manageable tasks based on your writing, preferences, and available time.
How does Audience Plan work?
Audience Plan starts by asking a few questions about:
- Where you are with your writing
- How you prefer to create and share content
- How much time you have available each week
- Where you already have an author presence
You can also add context about your story and the topics you might like to post about as an author. If you have already completed a Story Canvas, you can choose to use those details instead.

Choose where to start
Based on the information you provide, Audience Plan recommends a platform where you could begin building your author presence.
You’ll see why the platform may suit you, along with
other options that were considered. The recommendation is a starting point rather than a requirement, so you can choose a different platform if another option feels more suitable.

Get your personalized plan
Once you choose a platform, Audience Plan creates a plan to help you get started. This can take a few minutes.
Your plan is organized into:
- Milestones: The broader outcomes you’re working toward, such as publishing your first post
- Steps: The different stages within each milestone
- Tasks: Specific actions that help you complete each step
The number of tasks in a step is based on the amount of time you have available each week. Complete your current task to unlock the next one.

What guidance will you receive?
Each task explains what to do and how long it should take. Select Show me how when you need more detailed guidance, examples, or a relevant external resource.
Audience Plan gives you direction, but you remain in control of what you create and share. You can adapt the guidance to suit your voice, story, and audience.
How does your plan adapt?
At the end of each step, you’ll complete a quick check-in about how the workload felt. You can also share what worked, what didn’t, or anything that got in the way.
Audience Plan uses this information to tailor the tasks in your next step. If your available time changes, you can update how much time you want to spend each week.
What are the benefits of using Audience Plan?
Audience Plan can help you:
- Make a focused start: Begin with one platform instead of trying to establish a presence everywhere
- Turn a larger goal into practical actions: Follow specific tasks rather than deciding what to do next on your own
- Work with the time you have: Receive a workload based on the time you can realistically spend each week
- Get guidance when you need it: Open additional instructions and examples for individual tasks
- Adapt your approach: Update your preferences as your needs and available time change
- Track your progress: See your milestones, steps, completed tasks, and current task in one place
Can I change my platform?
Yes. You can return to your full plan and choose a different platform.
Tasks are created for the platform you select, so changing platforms will reset your plan and remove your existing progress. Audience Plan will warn you before this happens so you can decide whether to continue.
Does Audience Plan publish content for me?
No. Audience Plan provides tasks, guidance, and examples, but it does not publish anything on your behalf.
You decide what to create, what to share, and when to publish it.
